Traditionally painted in tempera with pure colour pigments and egg on traditionally prepared wood with gesso. All paintings are done by an experienced painter. Wood cut to size, is first sized to seal the grain. Then a piece of white linen fabric is glued with rabbit skin glue and ten layer of gesso is layed on. The last layer is sanded to a smooth marble finish. Dried pigments are mixed with egg yoke/vinegar (egg tempera). 23 karat gold and/or silver leaf on bole is used. Gold is burnished and sometimes decorated.
